The Laboratory was founded in 1992 within the Industrial Engineering Department at Bogaziçi University. The members associated with BUPAM have expertise and interest in theoretical and practical problems in the areas of computer vision and image processing, pattern recognition, integrated manufacturing systems, automated quality inspection, CAD based vision. BUPAM provides a warm and highly motivated environment for interested undergraduate, and graduate students to carry out applied research in scientific and industrial related areas. The target is to work out industrially applicable solutions that are also theoretically fulfilling. The principals of the Laboratory work closely with appropriate university, governmental and private organizations to foster high-technology growth in the region. This growth is effected through substantive research, from theory to practical application and the training of skilled graduate and undergraduate engineers and scientists. Collaborative efforts not only cross disciple among various faculty members within the department, but also include other departments (e.g. Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mathematics) and other Universities (Brown University - USA, City University, University of Hertfordshire - UK). An important goal of BUPAM is to educate graduate and undergraduate students to be well-rounded in the above disciplines and experieneed in bridging the gap between mathematical theory and practical development.
