Discriminating between 1300 and 1600 cc Engines (with Tofas A.S.)
The aim of the project is to discriminate between 1300 and 1600 cc engines which are
manufactured by same machinery but with different processes and to send the discriminating
signal to the separating machinery. In Tofas factory the 1300 and 1600 cc engines are
processed on the same production line. On the production line, the engines go through
various manipulations, and the cylinder diameter size of the engines increase by
approximately 1 mm during each of these manipulations. Two main problems are encountered
on the production line. First, wrong engine type could be put on the line, second, an
right type of engine, but has not gone through the planned manipulation could be handled.
Currently implemented system eliminates the difference between these two types of engines
by a variation in the design of the production line and overcomes this problem. The study
realized in this project involves with discrimination of engine types by taking images
over the engines and calculation of cylinder diameters. The implemented algorithm is able
to distinguish between 1 mm differences between the cylinder diameters. The developed
software was transferred to a image processing system which depends on TMSC20 algorithm in
order to enable the application of the system in real-time.
